ANTI-BULLYING WEEK 2020

16^th – 20^th November is anti-bullying week. The theme this year is ‘united against bullying’. Do have a look at the children's feedback to one another at the end of a very informative week. Anti-bullying - Children's thoughts

Congratulations to all our children who entered our School Talent Show.  We enjoyed showcasing our talent at the final

which was held on Friday 3rd May and was a huge success!

Year 4 and 5 have worked incredibly hard to replicate the main events of WW1 through their production, 'A Letter to the Trenches' . A very moving and thought provoking presentation of these real life events was given with impressive acting, singing and dancing. Well done to everyone involved!

Charles Dickens Themed Week

The children had fun learning about Charles Dickens, Victorian Britain and dressing up as Victorian characters. During the week the children read many books by Charles Dickens; a theatre company visited school to perform Oliver and some children even came to school in their pyjamas for a bedtime story whilst their parents found out about reading.

Thank you to everybody who helped to make this week successful and enjoyable.

Sports Day

Well done to all children for a fantastic team effort on sports day.

Health Week - Competitive Cross Country!

Well done to all runners - you put in a fantastic performance!

Year 3 have enjoyed sharing their First Holy Communion with one another and the rest of the school!

Congratulations to our 'Quiz Team' who entered the Otley Road Safety Quiz - they won their heat and came 3rd overall - we're very proud of you children, well done! 

During the month of May some members of staff and families have met in Church before the start of the school day to say the Rosary!

During the  month of May we have gathered together to pray the Rosary - KS2 enjoyed doing this on the field where we also sang some hymns - and all in the sunshine!

Well done to all our pupils who took part in 'Walkshire' and walked to school!  Many children were presented with certificates and prizes in assembly!

The children and staff of Ss Peter & Paul School dressed in Yellow to raise money for Catholic Care!

Congratultions to our pupils who sang in Leeds Town Hall last night (1st December) at the Christmas Concert.

The children enjoyed an assembly on Monday 2nd November where they learned all about our school budget!  We then launched our £20 challenge - each class have £20, every time they loose an item,   e.g. a pencil, a glue stick, the cost of the item comes off their £20!    Classes can spend the money they have left at the end of the term!

We have celebrated our end of year Mass (Thursday 16th July) and are saying a special 'goodbye' and 'good luck' to all in Year 6!

End of term Cream Tea!

Our children represented Ss Peter & Pauls School in the Civic Hall (9th July) where they took part in a debate over current issues in our schools as well as delivering a powerpoint presentation to 25 other schools showcasing the wonderful work we do in our PSHE curriculum.  They were also presented with our 'Healthy Schools' plaque at the celebration event for schools who have had their healthy school status revalidated during this year.  Well done children!

 World Book Week Challenges

To celebrate World Book Day, each class took part in The Great Book Off. The children enjoyed the challenges. 

 New School Motto and Mission Statement 27th February 2015

Over the past few months, our whole school community of children, staff, governors and parents have worked hard to write our new school motto and mission statement. To launch them, we created an 'ethos' tree on which each child is represented in a symbol of faith, hope or love. We have also written a new school hymn and each class has made  a poster to represent one of the key words.

World Faith Week 9th - 13th February

Each class studied the beliefs and customs of a different world faith. They presented their work in a sharing assembly.

Safer Internet day 10th February 2015

In class, the children learnt about the dangers of revealing personal information on the internet and how to use the internet and email safely.

 We are a Healthy School!

Our Healthy School's status was successfully re-validated. The Healthy Schools Advisor assessed the school in many areas including: leading healthy lifestyles, being active, keeping ourselves safe, our relationships and behavior with one another, healthy eating and anti-bullying.

The caring and nurturing ethos of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Primary School is felt the minute you walk in to the school.  The positive relationships across the school very much support the caring ethos of respect and the strong sense of community through which parents, pupils and staff feel listened to, consulted with, valued and well supported.

There is a clear and whole school approach to the holistic health and wellbeing of pupils and a real commitment from staff. This staff commitment is very much recognised, valued and appreciated by parents.

The School Council is strong and an effective key stakeholder with a good structure. 

All pupils demonstrated how proud they were to belong to this school community. They were confident, well-mannered, mature and demonstrated a good knowledge of health.

The well-planned Health week enriches the Local Curriculum and engages the whole school. 

The strong Investors in Pupils programme is used as a mechanism through which pupils develop personally, socially and receive key financial education. 

The school's approach to informing pupils of the choices they have with regards to healthy eating is apparent both in and beyond the curriculum and is embedded as part of day to day life.

The dining environment is very well managed, calm and orderly with a family service.

There is good range of extra-curricular opportunities for pupils,with a high level of engagement, including the play equipment that is available during lunch break.

The school works hard to engage all pupils at many levels with the extra-curricular clubs on offer and their views are sought and acted upon.

The whole school sport events are extremely popular and recognised as engaging everyone, including parents and governors,demonstrating how sport has been used in a fun and inclusive manner on a whole school level.

The commitment from all the staff at the school is a real strength. Pupils reported feeling safe and would know where to go for help and support if they need it. They appreciate the opportunities that the school makes available for pupil leadership and the opportunities that these provide to build their confidence and self-esteem.

All pupils spoken to were aware of what constitutes bullying and the difference between bullying behaviour and falling out. Pupils could explain what to do if they were being bullied or saw someone else being bullied and what the school staff would do to help. The school engage on an annual basis with Anti-Bullying week, choosing specifically to call it Kindness Week and focusing on the positive behaviour.

“The dinner hall has a nice atmosphere, the dinner ladies and teachers help to make it calm.”

“The virtues are important because Jesus had these and we need to follow in his footsteps”

“The quality of the teaching is really good, the new headteacher has really driven this forward and raised the standards.”

 Mocktails and Mayhem courtesy of the Halfway House 

Mocktails and Mayhem in school on 13th November when Adam and his team form Halfway House Baildon took over our assembly to announce the winners of the menu design competition. Thanks to all the children who took part. The front cover design elements ranged from butterflies to bears. Menu ideas were excellent ranging from conker soup to gruffalo wings!

Congratulations to Ruby Bowman of Year 6 whose winning design can now be found on the front cover of the Halfway House's new Children's Menu. Don't forget to visit them with your voucher and try the new children's menu for free. 

 Remembrance Workshops

The children in Key Stage Two took part in workshops with staff from Leeds Museum Services. These were kindly organised by Mrs Thompson. The children explored artifacts from WWI.

In Key Stage One children took part in workshops with Sr Katherine, a WWI nurse. 

Kingswood

Year 6 had a fantastic time on their residential to Kingswood.

First Holy Communion

Congratulations to the children in Year 3 both in school and in our parish who have made their Holy Communion. 

Music Assembly

All of the children who play a musical instrument in school or are part of the choir showcased their talents in our music assemblies this week. The progress the children have made in learning their instruments this year is exceptional and they have inspired many more children to learn on as well.

 Schools Partnership Concert 

Our school Choir sang at the Schools Partnership concert at Trinity University College. They all sang really well and we are very proud of them.

WORLD CUP DAY

Mrs Murphy organised a football tournament to celebrate the beginning of the World Cup. The children played in house teams.

Inflatable Obstacle Course

The weather didn't stop the children having a great time trying out the inflatable obstacle course. 

Andy North from Ultra 6

Andy North from the Ultra 6 Team, who has broken two world records for cycling and running, came to talk to us about his world record, the work he does for charity and how we should all set ourselves challenging goals for the future. The children thought about things they would like to achieve when they are older and placed them on 'The Dream Tree.'

Leeds Markets Trip

Year 5 visited Leeds Markets to find out all about its history and where our food come from.

Arla Food Factory

Year Two visited the Arla factory to find out how our milk gets from the cow to the shop.

Athletics

The children enjoyed practising athletics with Leeds Sports Academy.

Healthy Eating

The children took part in Bushtucker Trials and healthy Food Technology activities.

Cricket and Football

The children practiced their cricket skills with students

from St Mary's Leadership Academy and their football skills with coaches from Leeds United.

CafeTour de France

As part of our Tour de France theme, we held a French breakfast café

World Book

The children enjoyed dressing up for World Book Day
