At Ss Peter & Paul School, learning about the 7 Habits of Effective Leadership is an important part of our curriculum because we believe we are all leaders of our own lives!

The 7 Habits of Effective Leadership supports both our school's ethos and our focus on virtues as part of our Catholic Character Education.

A FOCUS ON HABIT 1 - BE PROACTIVE              

Habit 1: Be Proactive is about taking responsibility for you and your life. You can't keep blaming everything on your parents or grandparents. Proactive people recognise that they are "response-able." They don't blame anything or anyone else for their behaviour. They know they choose their behaviour. Reactive people, on the other hand, are often affected by things around them. They find other things to blame for their behaviour. For example, if the weather is good, they feel good. If it isn't, it affects their attitude and performance, and they blame the weather.

Habit 2: Begin with the end in mind is based on imagination - you need to see in your mind what you cannot at present see with your eyes. It is based on the idea that all things are created twice. There is a mental (first) creation, and a physical (second) creation. The physical creation follows the mental. If you don't make a conscious effort to visualize who you are and what you want in life, then you empower other people and circumstances to shape you and your life rather than you being in control of it. Always think about what you are trying to achieve, then create a plan to help you to get there!

A FOCUS ON HABIT 3 - PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST

Habit 3: Put first things first is about time management.  It is a good idea to identify and prioritise tasks and activities based on urgency and importance. Truly effective people make sure that the most meaningful tasks related to their personal mission are an important part of weekly and daily planning.  With habit 2 Begin with the end in mind, you set your goals and 'big picture' - this is your end in mind.  With Habit 3, you decide what is most important in achieving your goals/big picture and you put these things first!  Put first things first!
