Mathletics is a fantastic website which allows your child to practise their maths skills at home.  It can be accessed by clicking here, and there is even an app for iOS and Android devices.  Teachers may set specific tasks for homework, or you can explore the range of activities available.  You can explore different areas of the website including problem solving activities, songs to help learn times tables and live Mathletics in which the children play against other students across the world.

Children play to win certificates, you need at least 1000 points in a week to earn one.  The class with the most time spent on Mathletics and the highest total number of points wins a class trophy point.

The password for Mathletics was sent home at the start of the year, if you have lost it please ask your class teacher for a reminder.

Maths Passports

Maths passports work through a sequence of mental maths facts which get progressively harder.  Every child in school will soon have a maths passport target to take home and work on.  Please practise these at home as we believe they will really help to improve all calculation work.

Big Writing

Big Writing happens in school every other Friday.  A planning sheet will usually be sent home on Wednesday for you to fill in with your child, to be brought back on the Friday.  Please discuss the topic and help them to think about their ideas and vocabulary choices.  So far we are very pleased with the improvements in writing seen during big write, so keep up the good work.

Big Maths

Big Maths happens in school every other Friday.  There is no homework for this!  This is an opportunity for the children to explore different ways of solving problems in a mathematical context.

Personal Learning Discussions

Our Key Stage 2 children take part in Personal Learning Discussions with their class teacher in October and February.  Attainment levels are discussed and future targets set.  A discussion between child and teacher takes place around the actions to be taken in order to achieve set targets.  Year 2 hold these discussions only in February.  The Personal Learning Discussion sheets are sent home to parents.  Many parents find it useful to bring the discussion sheet to Parent Consultation Evenings.
